As a business owner, you’ve probably learned a few tricks for increasing your audience reach. Maybe you’ve pinned your business card to café bulletin boards. Maybe you’ve sponsored a 5K run in your neighborhood. And of course, you’ve polished your website and social media. But are you advertising your everyday job positions?

A successful business appeals to their target audience by offering goods and services that make their customers’ lives easier. But you can offer your audience more than that. You can also offer employment.

Here’s an example of how this tactic can increase your audience reach. Say that I, a college student, am looking for a part-time job. Obviously, I’m in school to earn a career job in publishing (I’m an English major). But right now, I just need an everyday job during the break.

Say that you own a bike shop. I have no interest in biking (sorry), so normally I wouldn’t give your business a second glance. But suppose I see online that you’re offering a part-time desk position that I’m qualified for. That would stop me in my tracks. I’d jot your business down in my “Places to Apply to” list. And if I had friends who were looking for jobs, I’d spread the word about your business. Suddenly, you have me and my network learning about your business for the first time. All because you said you had a job opening.

In fact, I had a classmate who worked at a local bookshop. He ended up pre-ordering stacks of comics with them. And when we English majors ask him about book deals, guess where he refers us to. Yeah. The bookstore where he works.

What if you’re a smaller business that can’t afford to employ too many people? Fortunately, you can still use this strategy. Instead of offering paid positions, offer unpaid positions. Many high schools and colleges require students to fulfill volunteer or internship hours. Plus, many young people will appreciate the resume experience and networks your position offers. But keep in mind that paid positions will attract more favorable publicity and interest.

If you have posted job positions online before, you might be cringing now. Tracking all those job ads, sorting a pile of job applications from a dozen websites — it can be messy. But instead of you posting dozens of job ads, what if you could just find dozens of ready candidates? What if you could identify the candidates you want to interview from a glance at their profile? Even better, what if you could post about your business once and have ready local candidates contact you? That’s MoreWithUs — Everyday Job’s solution to the hiring hassle. Simply create a profile in the business directory and get your name out to potentially more and more people.

Jobseekers are potential customers. Sharing about your open positions can net you new customers and business growth. Try a new way to expand your audience reach, and good luck!
